Commander's Corner

Hello Everyone,

I hope that everyone had a great Christmas and New Year. Wow, has the time flown by quick. I would like to take a moment to remember all of our Legion members that have been called back home. Y'all will be missed. On a brighter side, I would like to welcome our snowbirds back to the post. We're glad to have you here.

Over the last quarter, the post has donated $10000 to Fisher House, $1000 to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and another $1000 to the Veterans Tribute Tower! We now have the "Queen of Hearts" game at the post. Drawings are held on Saturday @ 8:00pm. Please see your bartenders for tickets and details. The post still hasn't got to 100% membership. So if you haven't renewed and paid your dues, please do so.

In conclusion, let me say that I hope everyone has a safe and prosperous New Year. Thank you and God Bless.

For God and Country,
Bill Grady

According to my records, 245 members have not renewed Legion membership for 2014. Unless dues are paid by December 31st, they will be considered delinquent and will not have access to the Post until dues are paid. We need membership to support our four pillars which are: Fostering a Strong National Security, Taking Care of Veterans, Mentoring the Youth of our Nation and Promoting Patriotism and Honor. Also, dues are a primary source to provide the Post with insurance against catastrophe. Please renew for 2014.

I want to thank all of our members whose donations went to support our Legion objectives. A total of $39000 was distributed with the majority in our local community. This went towards support for our military, assistance to veterans in need and Children and Youth programs of the American Legion. Special thanks to Bill and Edith Bullock for their efforts in the "Bit of Home" programs which sends packages to our troops in harm's way. Donations to Rogers-Hinson Post 235 are tax deductible. I wish all of you good health, prosperity and happiness in the new year.

For God and Country,
Bob Trainor

Oh God, Almighty and merciful, who brought us here as military veterans who proudly served for the peace and freedoms that our great country stands for. We are here today to honor the memory of our departed comrades, heroes and all. They are not lost or forgotten. We trust their souls to eternal rest in the loving care of our creator and savior. Their memory shall ever live in the minds of all relatives, friends and those who show pride in our country.

Happy New Year! May God bless you in 2014.

The Auxiliary has had a very busy and heartwarming last few months. On November 10th, we had a rededication ceremony of the Eternal Flame located in front of City Hall. Mayor Mike Anderson attended along with Pat Carpenter, District President.

Throughout November and December, we collected non-perishable items during Wednesday night Bingo. It was a great success. We donated approximately 150 items to Sharing and Caring. They were very grateful.

On Saturday, December 14th, we made a trip to the Chester Sims Veterans Home in Panama City. We brought goodie bags to all of the veterans and had a wonderful time visiting with them. They were so happy to have visitors. Thank you to Jacqui, Debbie, Paula, Lisa and Shari for coming with me to bring some holiday cheer to our Veterans. It was very heartwarming to honor them.

Just to bring you up to date, the Christmas Bonanza Bingo was a big success with prizes of over $800 cash! Congratulations to all of the lucky winners. Reminder, the 3rd Tuesday of each month the Auxiliary hosts dinner in the bar. Plates are $5.00 each and it's a different menu each month.

Thank you to all of our members who have donated their time and talent for our bake sales. They are going great! Thank you to all of volunteers. You make the Auxiliary shine!

For God and Country,
Leslie Brodbeck
Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year! Our membership is doing well. Thanks to all those who have sent in their dues. However, attendance to our meetings has been slack. I expect to see more of you this coming year. SAL meetings are the 1st Monday of each month @ 6:30.
